Source: GNA - The Sekondi-Takoradi Area Women’s Movement of the Apostolic Church, Ghana has donated various food items, detergents, clothing and toiletries for the upkeep of the inmates of the School of the Deaf at Inchaban, near Sekondi.
The GHC6, 500.00 worth of items, included 10 maxi bags of rice, used clothing and shoes, six maxi bags of gari, quantities of rubber slippers, bags of sachet water, soap and vegetables.
Making the presentation, Deaconess Mrs Paulina Afedzi, Executive Member of the Movement said children are the gift of God therefore those found in unfortunate condition need not be neglected.
She entreated parents and guardians of children with disabilities not to abandon them but rather train them to gain trades and become useful adults so that they do not become liabilities because of their plight.
Receiving the items, Mr Kofi Oti Frimpong, Headmaster described the donation as the biggest since he headed the school.
He said the school depends largely on donations from churches, non- governmental organisations and philanthropists to cater for the 351 students as financial and material support from the Ghana Education Service is irregular.
According to Mr Frimpong the school, established in 1971 and started with 17 students has never seen renovation thus leaving big cracks in the walls of the dormitories which is gradually become death traps.
To prevent disaster the headmaster appealed to benevolent societies to support the school, which presently has 36 teaching and 34 non-teaching staff.
